Baruch College, Newman Library

New York, New York

The Lexington Avenue Cable Car Company was transformed into the Newman Library by Baruch College in the early 1990s. The building was so heavily soiled that there was no evidence of the red, orange, and yellow iron spot brick and polychromed terra cotta units with iron spot glaze until BCA's cleaning tests uncovered the richly colored materials.

Awarded the Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award by New York Landmarks Conservancy and the New York Preservation Award by The Municipal Art Society.
